Introduction

The next Athlete Spotlight features a future impact QB currently playing for the Bienna Jets in Biel, Switzerland. Matthieu Faugere a 20-year-old French/Swiss citizen began his career playing flag football after losing interest in soccer. At a young age, Matthieu was forced to take over the duties of playing QB and quickly integrated himself into American Football. Though that was not his intention due to the overwhelming responsibilities and pressure it has on an athlete especially here in Switzerland. Luckily Matthieu found his way and started a new career path with the Bienna Jets and had lots of success at the U19 level and this past season which happened to be his first season playing at the semi-professional level.

Matthieu has learned to embrace the role of playing QB over the years and now is primed for all that lies ahead. With a tough schedule for the 2023 season and a decline of players around the organization, Matthieu is ready to be a big-time leader in year two and build on the momentum from the end of the 2022 campaign.

1st season & a look into 2023

A major goal for Matthieu this season is to lead his team!!!

American Football vs. Flag Football

Matthieu captured a flag championship with Neuchatel and looks to continue doing both as he joins the National Flag Football team of Switzerland. A sport that is currently on the rise in the US and is currently ahead of 7v7 touch football at this time. Though when it comes to playing American Football it is a different animal.

College Football & Recruiting

Many international athletes see the US college system as a way to develop and compete at the highest level while obtaining a degree. This structure does not exist here in Europe and Matthieu and his closest friend have decided to take the next step together by attending NCAA Division lll Anna Maria this coming fall.

Athlete Spotlight Series

It was a pleasure to be able to interview and hear from Matthieu about his journey and goals for the upcoming season. Matthieu has continued to mature and commit to the sport of American Football and now has his sights set on his college opportunity after his Swiss season. Matthieu is a great example for other Swiss or international athletes who are young and afraid to take the next step.

As you heard it is scary from his point of view to be on the field with a lot of big guys trying to take your head off. But Matthieu quickly discovered he has the talent and can make an impact with his feet or through the air. Be sure to follow the Bienna Jets season which kicksoff on April 10th in Biel, Switzerland.
