What Steps Do International Athletes Need to Do to Register for the NAIA Clearinghouse?

The NAIA Clearinghouse is an important factor that all prospective college athletes should be aware of, whether domestic or international. The organization determines which athletes are eligible to play sports at certain institutions and divides the players into Division 1, Division 2, etc. It also allows the players and their parents to track the athletes' progress and helps them stay on the right track to be cleared to play college sports.

All first-time NAIA athletes must register with the NAIA clearinghouse and Eligibility center before they are allowed to play. Registering for the NAIA clearinghouse can be a daunting task, but it can become easy by following a few simple steps.

What Do You Need to Register?

To register for the NAIA clearinghouse, you will need a record of your academic achievements. Since most international institutions do not take standardized testing, such as the SAT and the ACT, eligibility will be determined by your class rank and GPA. Therefore, you must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and graduate in the top half of your high school class.

The academic records that should be copied and sent to the NAIA consist of a class rank letter, transcripts, and a record of achievements. You should make copies in both the language of issuance and with a translation to English.

Additionally, you will need a copy of your school diploma, leaving certificate, and national examination certificate in the native language and English as well. Since the required documents can differ from country to country, it is important to research which documents you will need beforehand.

How to Register

Most international students should register soon after graduation or at the end of their academic year. All academic records should be submitted to the NAIA at least two months before the term's start date that they are seeking eligibility for.

First, request your secondary school to make copies of the documents listed above. It is important not to send the original documents to the NAIA since there is no guarantee that they will be able to be returned. Once these copies are made, as well as their word-for-word translation copies, they must be stamped and sealed by the school only; otherwise, they will not accept them. Be sure to have many copies of each document since you must mail them to two addresses.

Next, once you have two stamped and sealed envelopes, your school can then mail them to both the NAIA Eligibility Center and your NAIA school’s Admissions Department. Finally, you can send international documents through regular postal services, recorded delivery, FedEx, UPS, or other shipping companies. Now, the hard part is done!

Secure your Collegiate Athlete Position

As an international student, registering for the NAIA Clearinghouse may seem difficult, but the process is just different—not more complex! With these simple steps, you will be ready to register for the NAIA clearinghouse in no time.

Doing so will help you secure your position as a student-athlete, and set you up for greater prospects in your athletic career moving forward.
